The Middle Fork of the Salmon River
Headwaters
Born amid the rugged splendor of the Sawtooth Mountains, the Middle Fork Salmon River is acclaimed as the premier white water river in North America, setting the standard by which all others are compared.
Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness
Designated by congress in 1968 as a wild and scenic river, the Middle Fork Salmon has been preserved in its free flowing state, 100 miles of cascading, crystal clear alpine water plunging 3,000 feet down toward its confluence with the Main Salmon through the unsurpassed scenic beauty of the 2.3-million acre River of No Return Wilderness.
Diversity
No other river experience offers such wide diversity, including exciting class III and IV rapids such as Velvet Falls, Pistol Creek, Tappan Falls, Haystack and Rubber Rapid. Spectacular scenic surroundings are your setting for natural hot springs, wildlife viewing, fantastic fishing, excitement and breathtaking wilderness isolation.
Guides
Everyone floats the same river, right? Not when you're with Middle Fork Rapid Transit. Your guides are experts on the area and make the river come alive with historical significance such as tales of the Sheep Eater Indian Tribes and stories about the fur traders, gold miners, soldiers and early whitewater adventurers. You will go on side excursions to visit the historical Tappan Cabin, the Indian pictographs, old gold mines and take hikes up to Veil Falls and many other points of interest along the Middle Fork.
